Canisterectomy
From Xfool/Thumpertalk: “The tubes off the carburetor are vents. Don’t cap them. I took the two horizontal lines off the carburetor tee and routed them to the back of the engine as a drain and the two vertical lines off the carburetor are routed to a vent with an air filter placed under the tank up by the coil. The only line you want to cap is the vacuum connection to the head from the canister. If you use a plastic cap it will eventually leak. The best solution is to removed the fitting and replaced it with a hex screw. The tank has two lines. One drains the gas cap recess, the other vents the tank. Keep both lines hooked up.”
From dukepilot/Thumpertalk: Schematic here: “
Disconnect the carb vent lines/fuel lines and remove the tank and the headlight unit.
Take a look at what goes where... where the hoses go.
Remove the manifold that is zip tied by the ignition switch
Remove the small cannister attached to the lower triple
Disconnect the hoses that connect to the pink carb vent lines and reroute the vent hoses
Disconnect the hose from the nipple on the intake side of the head, near the carb boot and plug it up with an automotive vacuum plug
Remove the large cannister and attached hoses.
Install one of those little aluminum no spill fuel vent fittings to the top fuel vent nipple on the tank.
Reinstall the tank and headlight and you're good to go. Don't forget to plug the nipple on the side of the head. It is a vacuum line and will suck air otherwise.”
Headlight
Baja Designs makes the Tecate headlight that will fit. The small MR16 halogen can be used as a low beam and the HID as the high beam (by suggestion of Baja Designs. I'm a bit skeptical that this will be on-road street legal. Plus HIDs can take a while to light up.
Baja Designs also a standard H4 headlight that has an H4 bulb, supposedly about $77 on eBay.
Trail Tech supplies light kits for ATVs and also computers for enduros. Their self-contained SCMR16 is quite interesting if it can be easily mounted.
Husqvarna: according to the parts 'fiche, the Supermoto has the same headlight as the TE, although the bulb seems to be a higher wattage unit (65/60): thus swapping out the bulb may be the cheap and easy fix.
ElectroSport has a number of lighting options for Dual Sport, Street and Offroad.
Heated Grips
Dual Star heated grips have been wired in:
Eric Landstrom has a How-To for wiring in the Dual Stars and Heat-troller. The Heat-troller is my preferred route as it saves electrons and adjusts to exactly the heat you need.
Electrical Stuff Miscellaneous
The stock indicators can be replaced with the flexible ones from Husky Europe (part# 8000-A0227 thru 230 )
Luggage
Wolfman Luggage has a few options for Enduro machines. Their Enduro tankbag looks especially suited to the TE, and they have a whole 'Endure' line of bags, including fender bags and more.
Touratech has a 25 liter 'Enduro' tankbag and 5 / 8 liter tail rack bags.
Husqvarna: the much bally-hoo'ed saddle bags and clips are still missing in action as of March '06. Some dealers in the USA and Australia have heard about them, but 'they're not here yet'. According to DrPanglas/Thumpertalk, the Aussie distributors say there are no bags. The original statement referred to a topcase (AU$550) that mounts to the rear rack that comes with the bike, and was mistranslated to mean 'saddlebags'...
Revpack has their Seatpack JR that will fit (rwamf on Thumpertalk is using this). Looks good, and holds its shape when empty.
Storms hard case from cases4less.com: jim525/Thumpertalk has mounted one to the rack using stainless bolts, wingnuts and fender washers through the existing hoes in the rack. Padlockable, waterproof and about $35 before shipping
Givi: one of the Thumpertalkers mounted the smallest Givi (IIRC about 26 liters)
Manuals
Workshop manual: draft version. 20Mb, 'somewhere on the internet'. Let me know if this one disappears, or if you find a later version as this one is a work i in progress..
Parts manual: 20Mb, as for the workshop manual, let me know if this one disappears. We have backup...
Protection
Utah Sport Cycle has a skid plate that can be made to fit ((#460 need to drill second drain hole and new front mounting holes: rwamf / Thumpertalk)
Saddle
Renazco Racing is popular with the KTM 950 guys. Recently (March '06) been rather unresponsive, 1 man show that can't keep up with orders.
Bill Mayer makes a popular street saddle, I've seen his handiwork on a DRZ. Not pretty, but effective if you're looking for LD comfort.
Guts Racing seems quite popular among the Thumpertalk crowd. Some claim their tall / soft seat is too tall. Their stock application chart doesn't include the '06 TE610, you'll probably need to phone in.
Sargent Cycle does custom saddles, but it seems to be more of a 'at your own design and risk' kind of thing as they focus on their 'World Sport' street saddles
Side Stand
Cutting the top of the head of the bolt will eliminate the side-stand auto-retract.
Tank
Clarke was making noises about a bigger tank, but so far (March 06) he is only looking at tanks for the 510 series machines.
Off-the-Road in Germany made a 20 liter (5 gallons US) tank for the older TE610. Currently (March '06) have a prototype for the '06 510, that they will look to adapt for the 610.
